This exceptional hand-knotted Persian Kashan rug takes its name from the historic city of Kashan, one of the most important centres of Persian carpet weaving in central Iran, located about 220 km south of Tehran. Kashan carpets are celebrated worldwide for their intricate designs, high knot density, durability, and timeless elegance. Many antique Kashan rugs have survived for centuries, including examples preserved in the **Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
This particular piece features the rare and highly desirable “Sheikh Safi” design, an intricate and historic pattern inspired by one of the most famous classical Persian carpet motifs.
The rug is hand-knotted using 100% fine wool with a cotton weft, demonstrating exceptional craftsmanship. It contains approximately 169 knots per square inch, giving a total of 776,048 individual knots across its 4,592 square inches. Considering the complexity of the pattern, a skilled weaver typically produces around 800 knots per hour, meaning this rug would have required approximately 970 hours of weaving time, excluding the preparation of the loom, dyeing of the wool, and design drawing.
Although the rug is approximately 60–70 years old, it remains in excellent condition, retaining its soft pile and structural integrity. Prior to import, the rug was professionally cleaned to ensure it is ready for immediate use.
This rug has been imported by Heaven on Earth Imports, and a copy of the Certificate of Origin issued by the Chamber of Commerce will be provided to confirm its authenticity at the time of import.
