Man from birth, from the moment that one opens his eyes to this world, observes faces, shapes and patterns and these features gradually turn into the mind mantras and symbolic codes in the realm of his perception and subsequently turns into some motifs, of which we could find examples decoded and depicted in the diverse and vast designs of Persian rugs with over 2500 years of history.
Persian rugs in Iranian culture are considered the centre of any setting (Feng Shui) and it is one of the main basic items given to a couple to start their new life, like the Olympic torch handed from one demo slot generation to the next one. Although Persian rugs are not one of the mother arts, it covers all sorts of arts and have an undeniable connection with the fingers of mothers.
Iranian rugs are the softness that has got its root from the heart of harshness, the ultimate symbol of thoughtfulness, the light of eyes and sore of fingers and has traveled all the five continents. At its silence it carries the story of its creator as well as the story of its family owning it.
Speaking about Persian rugs designs, there is no limit. For over 2500 years they have been woven with the essence of Iranian nature and meditation. From the floral designs, an inspiration of Iranian garden to the myths and epics, to the portraits of the lovers, to the mystics and poetry, to wherever mind goes, you name it. In this regard, we can name the Simorgh design (an epic poetic story by an Iranian poet call Attar who died in 1221, Si within the name Simorgh means thirty and morq means bird) that depicts the story of a wise man called Simorgh, he appears in the figure of a bird and he is known as fair and trustworthy and has his own kingdom. The story starts when a flock of birds decide to go and find his Kingdom and live there. They had to challenge lots of terrible difficulties, through forest, mountain and desert, extreme hot and cold weather. So many gave up, lots of them died, many got ill and until finally just thirty birds managed to reach the destination. However, these thirty birds realised that Simorgh, the legendary bird, exists in themselves and not in the outside world.
