Persian Handmade Rug

This hand-knotted Persian rug is known Qum, that refers to where it is made. Qum is an old city in the central part of Iran and has achieved a very good reputation for producing top quality silk rugs for over fifty  years.

This rug is made of 100% pure silk, very high is density of knots, very intricate figurative design and potentiality to turn into an antique piece after a hundred years of enjoying its beauty. It has got about 625 knots per square inches; its total size is 2262 square inch (please see attached the third photo in this regard) so its total number of knots is: 2262 x 625= 1,413,750 ; Since it is very detailed pattern and very dense, a craftsman or craftswoman can manage to weave around 5000 knots per 8 hours hard work, so it takes at lease 282 days to weave this rug apart of the job to draw the design and colour it in, making the loom and dying the material that are different professions.

It has the signature of the craftsman, known for weaving silk masterpieces. His name is Rajabiyan. His signature can be seen in the last photo, woven into the pile in the Persian language as: Iran Qum Rajabiyan.
