Handmade Persian Carpet

This classic hand-knotted Persian carpet is a Kashan, named after the historic city in central Iran where it is made. Kashan has been renowned for centuries for producing high-quality, hard-wearing carpets with fine knot density and an incredible variety of designs.

The carpet features a classic medallion design with arabesque and floral motifs, a style dating back approximately 400 years to the Safavid dynasty. King Shah Abbas Safavi was a great patron of the arts, inspiring many of these timeless designs.

This piece is a Ghotbi Kashan, a famous brand known for masterful craftsmanship and fine knot density. The craftsman’s signature is woven into the center of the first border, visible in the bottom of the second photo. Its elegant design complements Victorian-style interiors beautifully.
